Venue: Grand Ledge Opera House, Lansing, Michigan I am a 3rd year medical student at Michigan State and Sean has his masters in piano and plays in an 80’s cover band, along with teaching piano. We pretty much have opposite schedules. I love to watch his band play.
Sean and I met while I was working at the Italian restaurant that Sean’s brother’s wife owns. I had worked there for six months when Sean started picking up shifts after graduating college. There was definitely and instant spark, especially on my part. I ran up to one of my girlfriends who worked at the restaurant and asked who he was because I had been working there for a while and I had never seen him before. She said “Oh my god, he just asked me who you were!” So, she helped to hook us up. He approached me after finding out that I was interested and asked me out on a date.
We were up north vacationing with friends at their cottage when Sean proposed. We were sitting on the dock at the lake, talking about the future and what we wanted, and out of the corner of my eye I could see him fiddling with his pocket. I knew what was about to happen and all I kept saying in my head was “Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god.” Then when Sean finally did propose I’m not sure exactly what I said – it was all a blur. A happy blur! All of our friends who were with us knew that he had bought the ring. Sean told them that he was just going to wait for the right time, so none of them knew that it was happening that weekend.
We had our wedding at my parent’s church which meant a lot to the both of us. I was extremely nervous, not about getting married. but just about having to stand up there in front of all those people. I kept trying not to cry. As my father and I entered the church I began crying, and as I got closer I could see that Sean was crying too. One of my favorite moments from the day was when Sean played a piece for me during the ceremony. It was so romantic! My family, bridesmaids and I decorated the reception hall ourselves. We created all the flower arrangements and the lighting for the reception. We worked on the flower arrangements the entire day before the wedding and also the morning of the wedding to make everything perfect for my wedding day. I was so happy with how it turned out! We had an 80’s cover band, because I have seen my husband’s band and I know how much people love to dance to that kind of music. The reception was just really, really fun: it was a giant party and everyone had a good time and stayed until the very end. My sister’s toast at the wedding was unbelievable! I was nervous for her but she got up there and was really great. She brought up a lot cute, funny stories that I had told her about the beginning of my relationship with Sean. Being newlyweds has been great. Sometimes when I study, Sean plays classical music and having it in the background really helps me focus. I love coming home to him every day.
