Bride or Grooms Name:
Venue: The Manor Restaurant, West Orange, New Jersey Erin: We met at a party thrown by my next-door neighbor, and ended up talking the whole night. My neighbor who threw the party just happened to be Jason’s best friend. While we were talking we found out that we had grown up 10 minutes away from each other!
Jason: I had to do a lot of chasing to do. I had to pursue Erin for a while before she agreed to go on a date with me. Erin: I was very young when I met Jason so I was hesitant. I wasn’t looking to get seriously involved with anyone. I thought he was attractive and he was a funny, laidback guy. I am big on having humor in my life and he kept me laughing the whole night. Jason: I thought that Erin was remarkably beautiful and at that time in my life I wasn’t looking for the girl I was going to marry. However, I did want to talk to her and see what she was about. Erin: Our first date was seeing Jackass the movie. I know, so romantic, right? I knew after the first date that this was someone that I was going to be with for a long time to come. Jason: Erin was under the impression that she wasn’t going to be proposed to for a long time. Every Thursday we went to eat dinner with my grandfather at his club, so I didn’t want to give any hints away because I had the ring in my pocket. So we went to dinner and then after I took Erin to an overlook that my grandmother always used to take me to. While we were standing at the lookout, I got down on one knee and asked Erin to marry me. Erin: It was on our three year anniversary when Jason proposed. I wasn’t expecting it at all. When he proposed I just started crying because the proposal was so cute. Jason said, “Erin I have never lied to you before except for the past two days. The first one was when I told you that I was at work the other day - I wasn’t. I was in New York. The second lie is I wasn’t at work today either, because I was at your house, asking your father for permission to give you this.” That was when he pulled out the ring from his pocket. I just started yelling, “Yes! Yes! Yes!” Erin: We were married on our five-year anniversary. We didn’t really go into planning until about a year out from our wedding day. It was nice to just relax after the engagement and not have to go right into the stresses of planning a wedding. I did all the planning for our wedding and for the last couple of months we hired a wedding planner just to make sure that everything was ready to go and that the wedding day went smoothly. I was a nervous wreck before I had to go down the aisle. I wasn’t nervous to marry to Jason - I was nervous about being up in front of all those people. Jason and I are two different religions: he is Jewish and I am Christian. We wanted to include aspects of both religions, so we had a Cantor and a Minster at the ceremony. I had to say a passage in Hebrew, and I practiced it once over the phone with Jason to make sure that is was acceptable. It was nerve-wracking to do it in front of so many people. In the end, our wedding was absolutely perfect. Everything went right, and it was the perfect day that I had always dreamed about. Jason: My favorite part of the day was seeing Erin coming down the aisle. I was fine and calm as I was waiting at the end of the aisle. I could see that Erin was nervous, and once she made it down the aisle, I tried to calm her down some before the ceremony started. Erin: For our reception we also tried to incorporate elements from both religions, so we had the bouquet toss and the garter toss, and we also danced the Hora. (That’s where the bride and groom are lifted up in the chairs.) Our first dance was to Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers. This song is very special to us because Jason sang it to me all the time when we first started dating. Jason: One of the best toasts of the evening was given by my brother. He was just really funny and sentimental. He managed to get in a few embarrassing stories from when we were younger. Erin: Jason and I lived together before we got married, so not much changed after we got married, except my last name. We just bought a new house and are planning to start a family in the next couple of years.
