Indiana residents are proud of their state, and with good reason! The state is home to some great sports teams, universities, and a wealth of natural and artistic wonders. To create an Indianapolis engagement photography itinerary for the true Hoosiers, you will want to stop in at some state gems. First, for $7 per adult you and your fiancé can head inside the Indiana Historical Society. The outer building itself is a lovely background for your images, so don’t forget to snap a few outside before you go in. Have your photographer snap some shots of you and your honey browsing the museum’s collection. Finish the museum experience by cozying up in the Cole Porter Room, a recreation of a 1940’s cabaret, while your photographer captures your affectionate display.
Next stop is the Indiana State Museum, where you and your partner can peruse the museum’s collection of art, historical artifacts, pictures, and much more. The outer building is a wonderfully modern blend of angles and glass that will look gorgeous as a backdrop for some posed engagement portraits. After paying your $7 admission fees, stroll leisurely through the halls while your photographer documents your visit. Pose for pictures beside a neat historical relic, knowing that you are about to build a whole new history together. Your final stop on your Indianapolis engagement photography itinerary is the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library, which is spectacular from the inside out. The front entrance is classically styled with looming columns, and the remaining parts of the building are more contemporary, with steep glass walls and ceilings. Stage a few pictures on the library steps or peeking out from behind one of the columns, and then come inside for a truly grand setting. The building’s entryway, the Simon Reading Room, is architecturally stunning. The room has wood paneled walls, marble staircases, and enormous columns that all provide an elegant backdrop for some traditionally posed engagement shots. Walk into the sprawling, glass encased Atrium for some great panoramic shots in front of the towering contemporary-styled columns. Spend the remainder of your photo session finding new places to get interesting pictures in this remarkable library—just remember to keep quiet! This itinerary will provide you and your fiancé with plenty of engagement photos to place beside the other Hoosier paraphernalia on your mantel.
Your Indianapolis engagement photography should reflect your passions as a couple. If you are avid fans of the live music scene, tell your engagement photographer to bring along ear plugs for your shoot and hop around to three of Indy’s fun music venues. At Radio Radio in the Fountain Square neighborhood, you can sidle up to the sleek bar and order some brightly colored drinks for you and your fiancé. Dance or sway together to the live band as your photographer takes some warmly-lit pictures of your fun times. Next, you and your honey can head over to the Slippery Noodle Inn, Indiana’s oldest bar. Sit at one of the tables and take in the live jazz band playing on the stage in front of you. Sip on your drink and order some appetizers to split. Your engagement photographer can incorporate the bar’s surroundings and the live musicians in your shots, making for a unique photo album. Before you wind down for the night, stop off at a dive bar for good measure—the Alley Cat Lounge. Literally in an alley in the Broad Ripple neighborhood, this bar is an eclectic mix of people and tunes that is sure to translate beautifully to film. Step out into the alley for some gritty, urban images that will spice up your photographs. By the end of your night, you will not only have checked out some great music, but also gotten some fun and untraditional shots to hand out to friends or use for your wedding announcements.
If your taste is more cultured than raucous, the city has plenty of classic venues for your Indianapolis engagement photography. Start at the Old National Centre (formerly the Murat Centre), an old shrine building and a performance venue. The outside of the centre recalls Islamic architecture with its terracotta façade and striking minarets. Be sure to capture some images of you and your fiancé outside of the centre before heading into the lobby. Step inside the lobby to get some beautiful images in the luxuriant space—filled with pinks, peaches, and lavish gold trim. Your next stop will be the Hilbert Circle Theater, a pretty white theatre building with an awning covered in lit white bulbs. Echoing the earlier days of theatre and performance art, the venue would look fabulous in some artificially-aged black and white images. Kiss under the awning or come up with an old Hollywood pose to really sell the building’s early 20th century beginnings. In the midst of Indianapolis’s thriving theatre district, you and your fiancé can also visit the Gaia Winery for a wine tasting to complete your Indianapolis engagement photography shoot. You can head to one of the tasting bays or hire a private tasting room for just you and your honey to sip on the award-winning grape concoctions. Your engagement photographer can snap pictures of you and your future-spouse sipping reds, whites, and some wines that fall in between. Entwine your arms and take a drink, invoking the classically intimate wine-drinking pose. When you are warmed from the inside out, your photographer will capture the glow of your faces as you look into each others’ eyes. Your engagement photos will ensure that each romantic moment is remembered forever.
