Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is home to some of the Chesapeake area’s most historic vessels. For a creative Baltimore engagement photography session, spend the afternoon down at the harbor boarding the various ships and having your photographer catch fun shots of you and your fiancé. Start out on Pier 1 with the USS Constellation, a sloop-of-war built in the middle of the 19th century. The ship has been restored and visitors can climb on board and feel the harbor waters swaying beneath your feet. Your photographer can capture majestic images with the masts towering above you or the water stretching out ahead of you.
Next, head over to Pier 3 to check out the Lightship Chesapeake, which was once an important navigational assistance ship. The vessel’s fire engine red and stark white exterior will provide a colorful background for your images. Once aboard the ship, check out the onboard exhibit while your photographer sneaks candid shots of the two of you in tourist-mode. Also at Pier 3 is the USS Torsk submarine, designed to look like a massive gray shark baring its teeth. Get creative coming up with funny poses in front of the giant shark mouth, and then board the vessel to check out its inner rooms. Pose for pictures in the cramped quarters of the torpedo room, the navigation station, or the engine rooms. Finally, walk over to the USCGC Taney on Pier 5. This ship was instrumental in the Vietnam War and is one of the few ships that managed to survive the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Traverse across the bright white decks together and get beautiful shots overlooking the calm inner harbor waters or stage some fun pictures in the open rooms below deck. From the ships Naval enthusiasts, historians, and anyone that’s fond of life out on the open sea will love looking back on this entertaining Baltimore engagement photography session.
You can also use the Inner Harbor for your Baltimore engagement photography session and leave your sea legs at home. The Baltimore Aquarium is nestled in the harbor and it’s a popular tourist destination for viewing all manner of aquatic species. The outside architecture is stunningly modern, with walls of glass and sharp angular corners, and it will add visual interest to the background of your photos. Once you pay the entrance fee, $24.95 per person, have your engagement photographer follow you around the aquarium and snap shots of the two of you against backdrops of solid blue and intensely colored marine life. With a little lighting ingenuity from your photographer, aquarium shots can really look amazing! Pose in front of playfully twirling dolphins or hauntingly beautiful sharks. The aquarium also has a spiraling ramp that descends down a four-story room, the walls are encased in glass and exhibit some of the building’s most amazing sea creatures. You will truly feel like you have gone under the sea and your photographer will have plenty of photo opportunities to capture the entranced awe on your faces. Across the harbor on Pier 5, you and your fiancé can get some great shots at the historic Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse. What was once an isolated beacon in the middle of the water is now an interesting look into our naval history. The garnet house with green shutters now stands watch over the harbor and it is a great backdrop for some romantic engagement images with you and your future-spouse. Enjoy the exhibit inside the lighthouse while the photographer’s lens looks on, and be sure to get some dramatic shots with the harbor’s skyline glinting behind you to end the session.
For those engaged couples that prefer a more untraditional approach for their Baltimore engagement photography, head first to Eastern Avenue in Fells Point for some pictures in front of the Baltimore Tattoo Museum. The museum has a tattoo-like colorful entrance that is reminiscent of an old carnival. Pose for pictures in front of the museum and don’t be afraid to show off your tats if you’ve got them! Drive up the road a bit to One East Chase Street, where you will find The Belvedere towering above you and your honey. The building’s architecture is magnificent, and your engagement photographer will have no difficulty getting amazing shots under the gold awning and neon marquee sign. You can also head inside to craft striking pictures in the building’s ornate, gold trimmed lobby. The last stop on your itinerary is the 13th Floor of The Belvedere. This unique level has been turned into a classy dining establishment with fantastic city views. Make reservations to get a table and have your photographer capture an intimate dinner, or simply sit at the warmly lit bar and sip colorful drinks while looking out over the city. This final stop will provide a nice way to unwind after your long photo session and your photographer will be able to catch you both in more natural, relaxed setting to create an album of pictures that you will always cherish.
