Gaspar and I met in the Navy when I was stationed on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, about four years ago. We became close friends and eventually started dating. We had been officially boyfriend and girlfriend for over a year when I was stationed to San Diego on the USS Tarawa.
I left on a seven-month deployment out to sea in the western Pacific. It was a long time, but we stayed strong through it all, and as soon as I returned, he visited me and proposed! Our wedding date was actually our three-year anniversary, so that made it really special. I walked down the aisle with my dad, to the music of "Over the Rainbow" by Hawaiian singer IZ. We couldn't have our wedding in Hawaii, so the song brought Hawaii to our wedding. We were the first couple to get married with the new stained glass they had just put into the church, two days before our wedding. The color was amazing! The four bridesmaids and four groomsmen looked handsome in lavender, which matched the sash on my dress. My father had been composing a song for me from the time I was a baby, and he finally finished it about a month before the wedding. He played it on the piano and had professional singers perform it during the wedding. There was also a lot of Latin music during the reception, since Gaspar's family is from Honduras. Being a coffee-loving family, our day started with a trip to Starbucks, but it ended with exceptional food, passionate dancing, photos of friends and family, cake smashing, garter grabbing with teeth, and then more dancing. The whole thing was perfect! I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful day!
